Mercedes-Benz Club (NSW) Inc
This
year, the Mercedes-Benz Club (NSW) Inc will hold its annual Concours
d'Elegance
on Sunday 16th September, 2007 (PLEASE
NOTE:
Change of Date due to availability of venue). As in the past,
this day
is the highlight of our year when the Club exhibits its marque to Club
members
and the general public. The purpose of the annual Concours d'Elegance
is to
promote the Mercedes-Benz Club (NSW) Inc and to foster general interest
in the
preservation, restoration and display of classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles
and to
promote the marque in general.
All
club members are encouraged to bring their Mercedes-Benz(s) for entry
to the
Concours d'Elegance or for display. Members with vehicles on historic
registration
are encouraged to attend and to bring their cars to the Concours.
Venue for this
year is The Entertainment Quarter, (formerly Fox Studios), Lang Road,
Moore
Park, in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.
We will be using the old Showring instead of Heritage Park which
will
give us more room and no danger from falling trees.
This is an
excellent venue with the advantage of providing the Club with very high
public
exposure – the markets will again be open. There is a real buzz to the
Entertainment
Quarter and the feel will be much like
Motorfest. The Eastern Suburbs is also the demographic centre for
Mercedes
ownership in Sydney so the potential to grow our wonderful club is
high.
Sandersons, our sponsor, are also located nearby.
Amenities are
first class. The display area is fully paved with some grassy areas
that can be
used for those who want to picnic. For those who, perish the thought,
wilt
after an extended viewing of our classy vehicles there are shops,
restaurants,
play areas, and theatre. Access from all areas is good requiring very
little
high traffic density city driving. For casual visitors there is a
parking
station within the precinct that allows the first two hours free.
Trophies are awarded
for
Best in Class and Runner Up for Classes 1 to 18 as determined by the
team of
judges using the scoring process outlined below. Perpetual trophies are
awarded
for Champion of Champions, which is a judged class; Engine Bay Award,
Restored
Vehicle Award, Long Distance Award determined by the judges;
President’s Award
and 1st
Appearance
Encouragement Award determined by the President;
and the People’s Choice Award, determined by popular vote. Winners of
these
Perpetual Trophies will also receive a small trophy to keep.
For those
wishing to take part in the Concours we will be continuing the
initiatives
begun last year with the same class structure. The 1st
Appearance
Encouragement Award, to be decided by the club president, Mike Fleming,
will
continue. This award will be given to the entrant who is competing in a
Concours for the first time, and has his/her vehicle prepared to the
best
possible standard, given his/her inexperience. It is an award aside
from the
chassis class awards, and is intended to show the Club’s appreciation
and
encouragement to new comers to the competition.
Champion of
Champions Class will be continued. In the interests of promoting
further
fairness in competition and enthusiasm of entrants, chassis class
winners who
have won their respective class for the previous two consecutive years
will be
promoted to the Champion of Champions Class. This way, all the best
vehicles
from those classes will compete against each other for the Outright
Award.
Those vehicles entered in this year’s Champion of Champions Class which
do not
win will be able to participate in the following year’s chassis class
again.
The Road Class, Historic Plate Class and the Modified Class are not
eligible
for the Champion of Champions Class.
Depending on
the number of entrants received for the Road Class, this section may be
split
into two or more groups, separated by age of vehicles. Each group will
have a
winner and runner up awarded. The minimum amount of required distance
remains
8000 kilometres (5000 miles) each year. It should be noted that, if
such a
vehicle is worthy of being entered into the chassis class, the Concours
Director has the discretion to do so.
A new award
for this year will be for the ‘best’ Display Vehicle as determined by
the
members of the Executive Committee. Criteria are to be determined by
the
Committee on the day. The Award will be available on the day only and
must be
collected at the meeting or will be forfeited and presented to the
second best
(see below for special conditions of entry for Display Vehicles this
year).
A
major purpose of the Concours d'Elegance is to recognise and reward
owners who
have done the most outstanding job of care and maintenance of their
Mercedes-Benz vehicles. A panel of judges will inspect all cars to
determine
those most worthy of awards. There will be three categories: Concours
Classes,
Historic Plate Class and Road Class.

We
have negotiated some relief on arrival and leaving times for Display
Vehicles
this year. We will be able to take Display Vehicles into the precinct
up until
9:45am (gates will definitely close at 10:00 am and latecomers will be
refused
entry). Vehicles will be allowed to leave from 3:00pm on but will need
to be
accompanied by a marshall. In order to facilitate planning we would
appreciate
advanced notice of intent to display a vehicle so we are requesting
that an
entry form be completed and the Display Only box ticked. No other
information
is required. As we are required to pay an entry fee for all cars
entering the
precinct on the day, cost to display vehicles will be $15 for one
vehicle and
$25 for two. Payment with the entry form would be appreciated but
payment will
be accepted on the day..
The
Concours will be held at the Showring, The Entertainment Quarter
(formerly Fox
Studios), Lang Road, Moore Park, NSW. Entrants will assemble at the
Coaching
Bay adjacent to the Studios for marshalling prior to entering the
Entertainment
Quarter. Entrants will then drive the short distance to Heritage Park
under Fox
Studios staff or club marshall instruction. Cars entered in the
Concours must
arrive at the marshalling area before 8:00am. Judging will commence at
9:30am.
Allocated Class numbers will indicate your location at the venue. Entry
details
will be checked and your vehicle directed to the appropriate area. A
map with
directions on how to reach the Entertainment Quarter is included below.
Spectators Parking
is available at the venue in the car park on Errol Flynn Drive. First
two hours are free.
