Hi Greg,

Another one of Des' 107 links here reveals an interesting instrument cluster pictured below.  I'm wondering if you had seen this type of speedo and/or tacho in rally slc pics, or in any AMGified 107 for that matter?  What's your take on the origin of these gauge faceplates to make them visible thru smaller steering wheels?

Oscar,

Whilst I have seen AMG speedos which read to 300km/h, that is the first speedo and tacho I have seen which attempts to get around the problem of obscured instruments when a smaller steering wheel is fitted. Must admit, I don't go much on the look of it. As for the 107026 factory prepared rally cars, I'm unsure what instruments they had. The only interior photo of a factory rally car I can recall seeing was of one of the first 107024 (450SLC) cars which despite being fitted with roll cage and competition seats, was still fitted with a standard steering wheel (see photos I posted in the SLC rally car thread in the Articles section).

Des,

Going back to the link you posted, I am thinking that the replica rally car mods may detract from the value. Look at the asking prices in US dollars for these examples of the 107026 (500SLC) at http://www.carsearch.com/Mercedes-Benz/1334.html and http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980-Mercedes-Benz-500-SLC-Collectors-Car_W0QQitemZ110100238052QQihZ001QQcategoryZ6332QQcmdZViewItem Hmmm... Maybe I should see what I can get for mine overseas. Makes the price I paid look cheap.
Also interesting how a potential buyer needs to be aware of what they are looking at. Have a look at http://www.dima.ac/carsforsale/Album18.htm for someone attempting to sell a 107024 (450SLC) complete with hideous US bumpers as a 500SLC.
