One to mark down in your calendars for the New Year: MBCNSW will be hosting a relaxed Sunday morning drive  from Sydney’s Middle Harbour to scenic West Head in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park via some great winding roads. We’ll end up at Bonds Nursery Terrey Hills, where you can enjoy the plants they have on offer, the gift shop and the refreshments available at Mirabelle Cafe. All up, the drive is approximately 70kms, and will be complete by mid-morning.

WHEN:  Sunday 8 February 2009
GATHER:  Carpark on west side of Spit Road, The Spit, Mosman. Enter carpark from Spit Road (see below).
TIME:  8:00 for 8:45am departure. Note Spit Bridge opening time of 8:30am.
COST:  $2.00 per car payable on the day. $11.00 NPWS Toll to enter Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, payable at park gate. Breakfast or morning tea at Cafe at own expense.
ENQUIRIES:  Send a private message to me here, or see: Matthew Ritchard / Maggie Keon at the February Club meeting.

The view from scenic West Head:

To all of those interesting in joining the club on its first drive of 2009, please note the revised meet and departure time from The Spit, of 8:00am for an 8:45am departure. This is due to a cycling event on in the National Park early the same day, so our later departure time will help us avoid that. We do, however, urge all participants to exercise caution due to the cyclists who use the park and other roads on our route.

The weather forecast at this stage is for Sunday to be quite hot:

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN10064.shtml
Forecast for Sunday
Fine. Very hot in the west. Freshening north to northeast winds ahead of a late southerly change.
Precis: Sunny. Late southerly change.
Fire danger: Very High to Extreme.

City:         Min:  24 Max:  33   Parramatta: Min:  22 Max:  40
Terrey Hills: Min:  21 Max:  34     Penrith:    Min:  23 Max:  43

Fortunately our drive is in the morning and close to the coast, so we should escape the worst of the heat. Please be sure, however, to bring adequate drinking water for you and your companions and check your car's coolant level before setting out.

Welcome to the forum Black Merc, there will probably be a marker buoy at the car park entrance so the battleships and tugboats know where to tie up

Actually, you'd be best looking for the collection of Mercedes-Benz (and Smart cars) in the western carpark, at The Spit. We'll be gathering there from around 8am.

A great turn out for what was forecast to be a sweltering day! The cafe was open all around so we were lucky that a cooling breeze made for relaxation. Thanks for organising a fun day Vince and your team.

Here are some photos from today's drive to West Head and Terry Hills. As the deviser of today's route it is very satisfying to see such a great turnout of people and a diverse range of Mercedes-Benz. Many thanks to Maggie Keon for her work in selecting & liaising with the Mirabelle Cafe at Bonds Nursery, who did a great job in efficiently coping with such a large crowd.

As a small aside, if anyone is considering joining an event at the destination cafe/restaurant only and not doing the drive beforehand, it would be appreciated if you please contact the organiser/s as a courtesy before doing so, as this affects numbers we advise for catering purposes. Thanks!

Enjoy the photos:

Looks to be a great day out and terrific cars on display.

Nothing beats a drive in a Benz on a Sunday.
 Grin

In fact any day is a great day to be driving a Benz.

See you all at the Motorfest in March.

Cheers,
