BACK TO THE FUTURE!
M.B. CLASSIC STAR, 69 Claremont Ave, (Off Brunker Rd) Greenacre.
Saturday 2nd May 2009
Noon to 2.30pm
In the 3 decades leading up to the 90’s, a revolution was taking place at Mercedes-Benz, with iconic stars such as the R107 and R129 being produced, come along and find out how they work, their quirks and problem areas, watch live demonstrations of cars on hoists being diagnosed, sift through thousands of spare parts in this ‘traditional mechanics workshop’ and swap stories with owners of these magnificent motor cars, that were once the cutting edge of the industry!
Experts on cars from those era's will be on hand to help with any problem areas you may have.

I have been speaking to the proprietor and here is the schedule of tech talks:
Meet and greet at noon:
12.15pm-12.45pm = 1962/67, W113 (Pagoda) & W111 (Finnies)
12.45pm- 1.15pm = 1965/72, W108/W109 (6.9)
1.15pm-2pm = 1970/90, R107 (350SL) & W126 (Battleships!)
A light lunch and refreshments will be served, cost $8 per person.
Where possible (and space allowing) some or all of these cars will be hoisted to allow easy access to critical points for discussion.
If you have any questions regarding any cars from this era, please ask the people on hand, who will be only to willing to help you!
regards

Today's Tech Day at Greenacre was an overwhelming success, with over fifty people in attendance. The hoist viewings and chit chat made for a very interesting and informative day. John, our host, assisted by Tony, went over and beyond to ensure that we were all well looked after. Nice to see some new faces, Forum members among them. Also it was good to see our female members ( some six or seven) showing interest in the technical aspects of there MB's. We look forward to more ladies attending our functions in the future. Thanks to the organisers for making it such a great day.....Mike

My First Techo Day!
It's great to be able to get under a car while it's on the hoist (it's another world under there!) and ask some questions.
Thanks to John and Tony and the Club organisers for putting together a very informative day. The food was great too!

Congratulations to the Events team and thanks to John at MB Classic Star. This was a wonderful event - the largest number of people I have seen at a technical day since joining the Club. Particularly good to see people come along who have found out about us via the forum. Car coverage was excellent.
We really do get great value from the generous people who put on these technical days. Thanks to all of you.
Paul

We also have a new member who saw the event on our Forum, so he came along to see if he enjoyed the club and joined half way through the presentation!

Now that's what I call a great event, cars, kids, ladies and happy chappies all craning their necks into little nooks and crannies they have never seen before and are unlikely to, unless we repeat the event!
To be totally honest, all the thanks must go to the clubs brilliant Executive Committee for arranging this one, for it was Executive member Tony Ayoub who first suggested a Tech Day at John's, he arranged it all and was ably assisted by Vice President Mike Fleming, (who also took care of catering) and a fellow exec member assisted on the door, greeting everyone and collecting monies! What teamwork!
Many thanks to you all, your continued support of the clubs Social & Events Committee and guidance of its direction is much appreciated.
I am continually amazed and impressed with the cars that our members bring along to these events, we had cars from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's there yesterday, just awesome, even passers by were joining in!
I am hoping our next drive, to Kiama Markets 17/5, may see the longest line of Merc's snaking down the highway for some time!
Regards

If I may ask how do I get from Nelson Bay to Kiama?
How many hours drive would it be to and from.
So I can attend the Tech Day and will there be room for my astral silver 260E?
Cheers.

350 K's Tim, 4 or 4.5 hours - that's not a trip I would do for a few hours enjoyment, it would have to be part of something else I wanted to do.

Thank you that info John.
Good point a 4 to 4.5hr drive might have to give it a miss unfornately.
I have never been to Kiama before.
I will just see the photos of the day when they are available.
I will keep my eye on the next Tech Day held in Sydney.
Cheers.
