The Social and Events Committee invites all members and their families to join them on a pleasant drive South to Kiama, with the opportunity to visit the famous Kiama Blow Hole and the bustling monthly market stalls.

Lunch can be purchased at your own expense at Kiama Leagues Club (ample parking) or at any of the many cafes or fish and chip and or take away shops in town.

WHEN:    Sunday 17 May 2009.

MEET:    Todd Park, Bunyala St, off Princes Hwy, Blakehurst. (nr petrol station, just before Tom   Ugly's Bridge)

TIME:     9.00am for a 9.30am departure.

We look forward to seeing you on the day!

Regards

Hi, I had an idea for this day that may facilitate parking.
On market days, the carpark up around the Blowhole gets a bit crowded, but there is another carpark just 100 meters down the hill from there near the rockpool (behind the fish market) that is usually empty, only locals use it, and if there are enough of us we could have room for all there.
If this sounds like a good idea, I can post a map?

Ok, will do, maybe as a back-up plan. The easiest place would be the main carpark up the hillt to the lighthouse overlooking Blowhole, but as I go there regularly on a Sunday, I know this is a poular spot for parking, especially on market days, and there are often various car clubs on a Sunday run parked up there.
Last month there were a dozen Mustangs, Camaros and Corvettes.
Depending on numbers and arrival time if that car park is full I will post a map showing the alternate choice which usually has a lot of space and fewer cars.

Hi Grease Monkey

Having been to the Kiama Markets on numerous occassions I agree that parking is crowded & difficult to all park together.
As the organiser for this drive it is my intention for everyone to park behind the Kiama Leagues Club where we will have
lunch in the bistro. There is plenty of parking & while it is not as prominant as the Blowhole it is safely away from the crowded spots.
We will be leaving our departure point at 9.30am & arrive in Kiama by 11.00am. Once parked behind the club there is time to
wonder down to the markets for an hour or two before heading back to the club for lunch. After lunch there is time for those
who wish to drive up to the Blowhole (parking should be a little less crowded by now) or a little more walking around the
numerous shops. Should be a good day if the weather is kind to us.

All good, I didn't mean to tread on any toes, but I had not realised from the initial post you had that organised, the "(ample parking)" bit I took to mean as a possible, rather than THE plan.
All ok anyway, see you there.

Hi GreaseMonkey

No offence taken, your input is most welcomed as you are obviously a local. See you in Kiama.

Hi there

Just a suggestion, while on the Kiama Drive....Just very near kiama is Saddleback Mountain...Its 600mtrs high and has fantastic views down to Kiama and surrounding lands and ocean. A very nice drive, about 20mins up to the summit from Kiama. Fairly easy inclines with 1 slightly steeper incline and a few curves on the way, not too hair raising. Also has a couple outlook posts to view the scenery.
You can check out the views on Google. Saddleback Mountain Kiama.

Highly recommended, if you have not been up there, and it is not in cloud on the day, give it a go.

Perhaps you guys who are familiar with the area and the route, might like to lead the way, on an 'after lunch sortie'?

I'm in!

Cheers

Easy,
there are two routes, about 10 or 15 minutes, so one up, and down the other.
If, it is not cloudy or rainy, no point going if visibility is no good.
Old smokers, or anyone running hot, better wait til we get back!

Morning all,

Be great to see photos of the day.

Perfect weather here at home this morning I bet Kiama is or could the same.

All that 'glitters' at Kiama today I bet.

Lot's of chrome and shiny paint and a Silver Star or two or three.

Cheers.

There will be lots of 'Sparkles' and glitter I am sure.
It has been a bit windy down the coast here, so any top-down drivers will have their toupe glue tested.
I will take some photos, but as I keep getting that 'uploader folder full' message whenever I try to upload on this forum I may have to post them on PhotoBucket and stick a link here.
All gassed up and ready to go!

Terrific GM.

I see the error with uploading photos has not been fixed it has been like that for weeks now.

'Uploader folder full' I wonder if Admin could fix this problem?

Have a great day everyone wish I was there.

Cheers Tim.
