 Huh

Would someone "in the know" be able to tell me where I can identify the paint colour code for a 79 Mercedes 450 SLC?  I have started the road to restoration and whilst I have a mechanic/electrician onboard taking care of what is under the hood, I'm clueless WHO to use for painting in Sydney.  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Vic

Spanky,

welcome, and nice looking SLC there.

it appears to be Silver Blue Metallic, or maybe Diamond Blue.

The paint code should be on your options plate, on the radiator support, on the passenger side.

Go and have a chat to two sponsors of the NSW club (that could do a great job for you, based upon past experience with my cars) and see how comfortable you would be having them work on your car:

Sam Movisio at AutoSalon d'Elegance, 30 Percy St, Auburn - Phone # 9649 3000

Axel Olleroch at Vehicle Color Design 32 Antoine St, Rydalmere - Phone # 9638 1069

Spanky, I am sure you have read all the well meaning welcome messages and good-on-'em, but would still like an answer to your initial question.
The best reference I have found for Mercedes colour codes is at;
http://meinbenz.de/
and click on the link in the left column;
Farbtabellen
then select your model, in this case R/C 107
The colours are listed according to the three figure code on your chassis plate, and where underlined you can click there for a photo of said car in said colour.
You may need to scroll down to the Metallic list.
It is in German, but in most case not hard to decipher the English name for the colour.
By the way, if there is a letter after the numbers on your chassis plate, that only refers to the paint manufacturer - ie G = Glasurit.
That car, and that year, my guess is code 930 which is SilberBlau. Whatever, any reputable bodyshop should be able to get a good match from the code.
Have fun,
Chris M.
