I was fortunate enough to ride in a friends Grosser and must say I am still impressed by what features were available in that car. Truly amazing!

G'day Schwarz have you seen the MB600 on ebay it's currently at $36,000 it looks ok except that it appears to be sitting very low on it's suspension but it might be worth a look.
Cheers Mat.

I thought it was about time to bring this thread back to the top to invite further discussion. Back when I started it we could not post photos. Since this is now possible I will post photos of the W124 500E and E500 that featured at the top of my list. Incidentally, my list is still unchanged from when I started this thread. Anyone want to add to the list with Mercedes they dream of owning?

Greg

I'll put aside my favourites list and divulge part of my dream list.

A few manufacturers have relied on their past successes and reinvented some of their older creations in some form. eg: Chrysler 300 & PT cruiser,  VW Beetle, Mini's and the Monaro.

My dream is that MB reinvent the Gullwing.  Keep the exterior, the chrome, the look.  Just update the engine with options for the biggest V12 they do, the latest in engine management, creature comforts inside, give it the works but keep faithful to the styling.

These babies would cost a fortune, no doubt, but I doubt their existence would devalue the half-a-million dollar originals.  The desire to own the rare and original is on par with the urge to own the new. Or so I think.

A new 300SL would sell like hotcakes.

In admiring one today I'd have to say that the current (and about to be supeseded) CL Coupe is one of my favourite Mercedes-Benz. Being a big fan of Mercedes' coupes, I think it's one of the most elegant big coupes they've ever done, and certainly one of the most elegant cars currently in production. It's definitely on my wish list  Grin

I'll say a 300SL except you would have to do something about the suspension the rear end was unstable.
The worlds first supercar!
Also a 600 they were built without compromise.

Since I love the w124s there would have to be a 500E there. I thought there is one in Australia owned by John Green of MB spares in Canberra.

Only one car for me the Grand Mercedes 600 Landaulet

Why?

Well why not?
These cars were a rolling statement of German engineering, decades ahead of other car makers, the style is timeless, the looks still fresh and appealing. It combines the essence of luxury, comfort, the driving experience.

The problem being Des who sits in the back while you drive? Are they having more fun than you?
If they drive then they won't be doing it as well as you.
Eternal frustration!

mate if I could afford a Landaulet I could afford some hired help to drive it.
it would be like a gentleman's club on wheels, drive around, friends in the back with the cigars, cognac, champaign flowing,

I'm sure that John Green would love to own a 500E (as would I) but he does not. He does however own a desirable and rare 124 coupe 300CE-3.4 AMG with manual transmission (unfortunately in left hand drive). I am unaware of any 500E in Australia probably due to only being manuafactured in LHD and the fact that the previous 15 year rule for private imports is now being gradually extended to 30 years preventing the import for the time being of anything from 1990 or newer. The 500E was only available from 1990.
